Telescope’s Forward Deployed Engineering function partners with our customers to turn frontier AI into production systems for finance and capital markets. We operate at the intersection of customer delivery and core product development, embedding with the brokerage and financial platforms we serve to make our products land in the real world.

About the role

Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) lead complex, end-to-end deployments of our AI products alongside our most strategic customers. You’ll own discovery, scoping, solution design, and production rollout, partnering directly with customer teams to take an idea from first prototype to a stable, live product.

Despite the title, this role leans more product than pure engineering. We are not looking for a code monkey, and you don’t need to be hardcore on the technical side. What matters most is that you genuinely understand finance and capital markets, are comfortable around technology, and bring exceptional soft skills to build trust with senior stakeholders. Communication, judgement, and the ability to win people over are the qualities we value most.

We’ve just landed a major partnership with CMC Markets in Sydney, and you’ll be on the ground helping make it a success. Expect some travel in the early months, roughly two days every couple of weeks, settling to around two days a month once the partnership is running smoothly. We’d love you based on the Sunshine Coast, where our team is.

In this role you will

• Own the success of deployments end to end, from first prototype to stable production.
• Embed closely with customer teams, understand their needs deeply, and guide adoption of what we build.
• Translate ambiguous customer problems into clear requirements, and shape how our AI products are configured and deployed for each platform.
• Scope work, sequence delivery, and remove blockers early.
• Make sensible trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality, adjusting plans to protect delivery.
• Coordinate across our product, engineering, and data teams to keep things moving.
• Bring field feedback back to Telescope that shapes what we build next.

You might thrive in this role if you

• Know capital markets and financial products well, and can hold your own in a room full of industry experts.
• Understand how software and AI systems work, and can engage credibly with engineers, even if you’re not writing production code day to day.
• Communicate clearly with engineers, product teams, and customer stakeholders, and build trust quickly.
• Have delivered complex projects in fast-moving or ambiguous environments.
• Simplify complexity and make fast, sound decisions under pressure.
• Spot risks early and adjust without slowing down.
• Model calm and judgement when the stakes are high.
• Are happy to spend time in Sydney during the first few months as we stand up the CMC Markets partnership.
